With space at a premium in so many apartments, it’s absolutely essential you maximize the potential of every room for storage to keep any one room from looking overstuffed, busy, or just straight-up messy. While your hallway may be too narrow for a bookcase or a dresser, our wall shelving is the perfect size for these tighter spots.

One trick that works even in the coziest of passages is mounting shelves close to the ceiling, out of the way, but still within arm’s (and eye’s reach). This is a perfect place to store lesser used items that you nonetheless want to be ready at hand: a flashlight and some candles for a blackout, for instance. Or use them decoratively. Place small plants on them or adorn them with miniature abstract sculptures and trinkets. They make a great sort of visual ‘Easter egg’ in a room, one that’s sure to surprise and impress your guests. Consider guiding their eyes to these displays by placing another larger piece of art alongside, such as a hanging tapestry or a long vertical print. Remember, your hallway should be as vital as the rest of your home!

You can also use these hallway shelves to create movement and ‘lead’ your guests to the next room. To do this, take four or five shelves and arrange them in a line--varying their hanging heights each time--and put a few different types of decoration on each: ceramic plates, vases, framed pictures. This eclectic display will make the passage feel as though it has a certain narrative, as if your guests are being ushered into your home.
