The Alps in Panoramic Paintings

Panoramic paintings of the Alps first appeared in the 1930s and can often be found in the centre of a tourist hotspot indicating skiing areas, hiking paths and a magnificent take on the local landscape. They also leave quite a lot out, the ugly industrial building on the outskirts of the village the exact route of the trainline. They almost pertain to be a map but without the rigour of a map. What they do convey however is the, slightly invented or heightened, majesty of the mountains.
