This sharpening stone is 400 grit and made by the Japanese firm Okatsune whose snips and secateurs we also stock. Of course sharp tools will only stay sharp if you sharpen them . . . or if you get someone else to do so!
This grit level is ideal for all kinds of everyday tool sharpening. There is some skill involved in using a whetstone but it is a skill worth acquiring. There are videos online advising on how to do this but the basic principal is to wet the stone thoroughly before use and to not apply too much pressure. The stone comes with some instructions (in Japanese) but the diagrams are comprehensible to non-Japanese readers.
