Crean Mate is an invaluable tool for the care of gardening blades on secateurs and snips. The block is rough textured and can be used to remove rust, or sap, that might have accumulated on the blades. You can apply a few drops of camellia oil to the blade and then use the block like an eraser to rub away at the marks. You can also use water to lubricate the action but should probably use some oil after this in order to protect your tools anyway.
Because it has a rough texture it is probably advisable to use it cautiously with much prized blades, or use on a test patch before committing fully.
