It’s hard to think of a greater colour than blue for stately decorations like vases. For one, it connects you to a long history of pottery and glass blowing artistry, from fine chinaware to decadent Venetian creations, giving your home a sense of history and importance. And even better it’s a colour that works perfectly with a whole bunch of different aesthetics, an excellent alternative to more conventional, but less exciting neutral colours like greys and beiges.

You don’t need us to tell you the obvious spaces for a charming vase. We think no dining room is complete without one as a centrepiece and any living room should feature a couple as part of any amateur florist’s display. But how about the less beaten path? These sapphire beauties are just the thing for the bath, with its ample waterworks. Try a smaller piece to hold necessities like your toothbrush or get something a bit larger to hold eucalyptus branches: the steam from your shower will release its phenomenal perfume, freshening up the space both visually and aromatically.

Another under-decorated space is your pantry. Show it some love with a vase that fits right into your shelves, and fill it with seasonal arrangements that pair with your freshest ingredients: stalks of wheat for the fall, dried grass in the winter, fresh wild flowers in the summer. The pantry can be a bit dim...no point in gussying it up if you can’t even see it, right? So pick out some exciting lighting while you’re at it, maybe an overhead light in an electrifying purple or emerald colour?
