An inventive way to use wallpaper, and a good compromise if you’re not quite ready to redecorate a whole room, is to use it as an accent in space, rather than covering an entire wall. Our yellow wallpaper works especially well in any room with a section of tiling, complementing the black and white tile of a bathroom or kitchen, or in a room with wainscotting, which is showcased by the contrasting textures. Or use it to highlight existing elements of your apartment: arrange a section behind your photograph collection (bonus points if you use lighter wood frames, which look great with any yellow palette) to put your inner artist front and center. It’s great too for a corner of the little ones’ room: they’ll go gaga for a cute play section formed by a tranquil fall forest or tulip patch design and a soft wool rug with a fuzzy creature or two.

Sometimes nothing less than a total revamp is what’s called for (we’ve had hair days like that…) If so, don’t be afraid to use two styles of wallpaper in the same room for a varied and energetic feel in a space. Choose milder tones in order to keep the natural calming feel of yellow and consider placing the different styles on opposite walls. This is an especially great look for a bedroom: it’s one of the most personal spaces in any home and, since there’s nothing one-dimensional about you, there shouldn’t be anything flat about your bedroom either! Finish the look with some pale blue linens or a seafoam green throw.
