...Whether it’s childhood wish fulfilment or just a flair for retro style, these cuckoo clocks are our latest obsession. Bring some old school charm into your home with these functional designs that help you stay on track without going, well, cuckoo!
Unlike Orson Welles’ character in The Third Man, we’re plenty glad peaceful Switzerland has given the world the delightful cuckoo clock. In modern life we have an overabundance of ways to tell time, but none of them are quite so whimsical, or so suggestive of the fact that a new hour might be a happy occasion--and not just because it’s one closer to quitting time.
One way to maximize the usefulness of these charming devices is in the kitchen. There’s no place in the house where you have to be more aware of the time, figuring out when to pull pies out of the oven, how much longer you have to slip out of the flour covered apron and into something more appropriate for hosting, etc. The cuckoo clock is a perfect way to keep you on top of things without feeling like you have a taskmaster standing behind you. A smaller, desk clock is just the treat here: you can keep it at eye level without it getting in the way. Might we suggest something in a charming silver to coordinate with your stainless steel appliances?
Of course, the kiddos will love it, too. Nothing will help them learn to tell time the old fashioned way quite like these charming clocks. Even the youngest tykes are sure to love how plain fun they are, just maybe try a wall clock so they’re out of prying hands’ reach. Try something in bold colours to really stimulate their imagination, maybe next to a few bird art prints?
