Product details

It is an honest and stunning novel that inspired the award-winning major motion picture of the same name.

"A moving, painful story, so vividly human and so obviously based on reality that it strikes us as timeless." - The New York Times Book Review.

The scent for this candle is called Black Wood. It is inspired by one of the novel's strongest symbols - the sculpture given by Fonny to Tish's mother. It symbolizes the black male experience throughout If Beale Street Could Talk, not only in its physical similarities, but also in what it signifies.

The Black Wood scent is masculine and strong, honest and straightforward. About the author: James Baldwin was born in 1924 and educated in New York. In his works he explores palpable yet unspoken intricacies of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western societies, most notably in mid-twentieth-century America. As an openly gay man, James Baldwin became increasingly outspoken in condemning discrimination against lesbian and gay people.

We honor LGBTQ celebrated author by donating 10% of profits sold on this literary candle to the Audre Lorde Project. The Audre Lorde Project is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color center for community organizing, focusing on the New York City area. The organization focuses community wellness and progress social and economic justice through programs like Safe Outside the system (SOS) Collective, an anti-violence program led by and for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans, and Gender Non-Conforming people of color. The organization was named after renowned writer, Audre Lorde.
